2020 FLORIDA CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS

Amendment 1:

The Florida Constitution states that every U.S. Citizen can vote in federal, state, local, or school elections. This amendment would change the language to ONLY U.S. Citizens.
Source: Citizen Initiative OPPOSE: This is an attempt to suppress the legal votes of immigrant citizens. |
Amendment 2:

Increases the state minimum wage to $15 by 2026.
Source: Citizen Initiative SUPPORT: This will provide a more livable wage for those who work in the service industry. |
Amendment 3:

Establishes a top-two open primary system for state office primary elections. Changes Florida's primary election to jungle primary where the top two finishers advance to general election.
Source: Citizen Initiative OPPOSE: This will reduce the electoral power of minorities and voters in gerrymandered districts. |
Amendment 4:
|
Requires voter-approved constitutional amendments to be approved by voters at a second general election.
Source: Citizen Initiative OPPOSE: This will create an extra burden for citizen-initiated amendments by requiring two general election votes for passage. |
Amendment 5:

Increases the period during which a person may transfer "Save Our Homes" benefits to a new homestead property from two to three years..

Amendment 6:
|
Allows a homestead property tax discount to be transferred to the surviving spouse of a deceased veteran.
